About the University Archives, its collections, and how to access archival materials.

Archives

The University Archives serve as the official memory of the university by identifying, preserving, and providing access to digital, textual, photographic, and audiovisual records of enduring value related to the origins, programs, and mandate of the university and its predecessors. The Archives provide access to original materials for use by the academic community and external researchers. As part of MacEwan University Library, the Archives supports a culture of research, scholarship, and creative activity to enhance learning and foster the application and creation of new knowledge.

An oral history of Grant MacEwan Community College (1971-1999) is also available.

The best source on early Grant MacEwan Community College history is Glenn David Ruhl's Grant MacEwan Community College: the first two decades, a retrospective

*Note that Human Resources maintain personnel records; student records are maintained by the Office of the University Registrar. For records on Alberta College (1903-2001) please contact the City of Edmonton Archives (780) 496-5989.

Access to Archival Records and Special Collections

While the Archives aims to make its records and services available to MacEwan University students, faculty, staff, and other researchers, the unique and original nature of archival records requires that all materials must be accessed in the Archives’ reading room.  Artists' books and other special collections may also be viewed in the reading room. These materials may not be borrowed.

The Archives’ reading room has limited seating capacity and is reserved for individuals using our collections. Individuals seeking a place for group work or a quiet place to study should use areas in the library designated for that purpose.

Access to records in the Archives is subject to the provisions of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) of Alberta.
